Digging is the chocobo side-quest of FF9. Like the other two this one gives you tons of rewards and game play. You can find equipment, cards, and items from what you dig up. This quest is circled around a mini-game called Chocobo Hot and Cold. In the game you have to dig up treasures with your chocobo within a time limit. To find the treasure you have to dig around to see if you're close to a treasure, hence the name Hot and Cold. Sometimes you'll find chocographs, rocks that show where treasure is on the world map. Find these locations to get the big treasures like equipment. Sometimes you'll get upgrades that give your chocobo more digging speed and allows him to travel more terain, leading to more treasure. Eventually you'll learn about more places to play Hot and Cold, Chocobo's Lagoon and Sky Garden. More chocographs are hidden there. Once you get the gold upgrade you're ready to find the Sky Garden. It’s best to start this quest when you first get to Chocobo’s Forest, then start back whenever you get new transportation. Most of the items you'll find will be useless if you wait to start. Below you'll find where you can find all of the chocograph treasures in the order that they appear in the chocograph menu.
Chocograph Locations:
1 - A beach near Chocobo's Forest. 2 - A beach west of the Mist Continent's Qu's Marsh. 3 - The mountains south of Evil Forest. 4 - A beach north of Cleyra. 5 - A beach south of the Outer Continent’s Qu's Marsh. 6 - Southwest of the Lost Continent's eastern beach. 7 - In the waters near the island between the Lost Continent and the Forgotten Continent. 8 - In the waters directly east of the Forgotten Continent's northwest peninsula. 9 - In the shallow waters southeast of Black Mage Village. 10 - The waters surrounding an island west from the Mist Continent’s Qu Marsh. 11 - On a beach on an island south of Chocobo Forest. 12 - Waters south of Treno, near a long island. 13 - In a forest surrounded by mountains west of Dali. 14 - A plateau northwest of Evil Forest. 15 - On the lower ledge of a plateau of the Forgotten Continent, almost directly north from Daguerreo. 16 - On a plateau near the beginning of the Forgotten Continent’s northwest peninsula. 17 - In the sea north of the Wind Shrine, and northeast of Oeilvert. 18 - Search the sea west of an island off the Forgotten Continent. Almost directly west from Oelivert. 19 - The bay west of the Fire Shrine. 20 - Near two islands northeast of Alexandria Harbor. 21 - On an island northeast of the Desert Palace. 22 - The island southeast of the one where Mognet Central is. 23 - The island southeast of the Lifa Tree. 24 - On an island to the east of the Forgotten Continent's Qu's Marsh.
After being upgraded to gold you'll be ready to find Chocobo's Sky Garden. During the quest you'll find a chocograph piece with directions. Follow these screwed up directions and you'll find a shadow. You might've seen it before and not know what it is, it's the entrance to the Sky Garden. Fly above it then use a dead pepper and you're there! It's a very hard hard level but eventually you'll find the last four chocographs. Now you're ready for Chocobo's Paradise, which can be found at all four corners of the world. After using a dead pepper to get through talk to Fat Chocobo to learn about the secret treasures. To find the secret treasure you have to use dead peppers to open walls and dive into water. You don't know where they are, you just have to search all over the world to find cracks in mountains and bubbles in water. Once you've found these take another trip to paradise to end your quest.
