Alexandria
Back in Alexandria, Dagger is preparing to become the queen. Zidane is
understandably depressed. Now you control Vivi in the town of Alexandria. The
shops that were previously unavailable can now be used. There are many items to
find and a few mini-games to play. Go to the bell tower and climb to the top and
ring the bell to get the Shiva and Ramuh cards. In the street that is just
beyond the first memorial square, you can meet Hippaul and his mother. She asks
you to race against Hippaul. This mini-game is a good way to get a few decent
cards. When you're satisfied there's nothing left, go to the alley and speak to
Blank and Marcus and agree to see the play. The scene switches to Garnet, who is
preparing for her coronation as queen. At this point, she receives an Opal, a
Topaz, and an Amethyst. These items, like the Peridot and Aquamarine, give
Dagger an Eidolon. Now you regain control of Zidane. Go to the weapon shop to
play a gambling game with the Nero brothers, but I think you have to see a
certain ATE first. Search in Ruby's theater to find some gil. Head to the
castle, but break up the fight between Freya and Amarant. Get the Phoenix
Pinions on the stairs at the dock. Go to the castle to say goodbye to Dagger.
While at the castle, get the Leo Stellazzio, which is in the tower to the left.
Back at the tavern, Zidane decides to go to Treno for a card tournament.
Treno
Even if you haven't been playing Tetra Master much, or even if you don't like
the game, you must compete in the tournament and face the champion to advance
the game's story. If you have less than Five cardsin your inventory, you can get
a few from Dr. Tot. Be sure to check out the Treno auction, you might be able to
get the Dark Matter, which contains the Odin eidolon. Don't forget to give any
new Stellazzios to Queen Stella. In the card tournament, you must win the first
two card games (you can play as many rematches as necessary), but it is not
essential to defeat the champion and you only get one chance to try. After the
first two games, but before you play the champion, you can leave Treno and go to
Dali, and enter the mayor's house, get a key, and go through the locked door in
the windmill to get the last of the Coffees for Morrid. Winning all of the card
games gets you a Rebirth Ring. After the tournament, you meet Regent Cid who has
flown in on the Hilda Garde 2. Eiko and Mog have a bad premonition about
Alexandria, so Cid takes you there on his new, yet shaky, airship.
Alexandria
Kuja makes a surprise visit to Alexandria and unleashes Bahamut to lay waste to
the city. Dagger must now rally the Pluto Knights to save the city. You must
assign different duties to different pairs of knights based on their
personalities (I believe there was a way to get an explanation of their
personalities earlier in the game, the better the choices you make, the better
the item you'll receive after the event. Beatrix and Steiner now head out into
the town to battle Kuja's Mistodons. Preserve your energy and use items to heal
after every battle, because at the end of this scene, they fight several battles
in a row without getting a chance to heal, but fortunately Steiner releases his
Trance ability in the last of these battles. Back at the castle, Dagger must go
to the top of the castle. Once at the top, the Hilda Garde 2 finally arrives and
Eiko jumps off the airship to meet with Dagger. Together, they are able to
summon the Alexander eidolon to protect the castle. Zidane now arrives at the
castle to get Dagger and Eiko out, you can also choose to evacuate some other
people, too. There's no boss fight here, but there is an optional boss that can
be found somewhere in the castle (has something to do with a book?). Kuja
summons the eye in the sky again to attempt to take control af Alexander (like
he did with Bahamut at the Iifa Tree) but fails because whoever is controlling
it has turned against him. The floating eye destroys Alexandria Castle and
Alexander with it.
Lindblum
After the events in Alexandria, Zidane wakes up to find himself in the Lidblum
Castle. He immediately heads out to find Dagger, who is at the telescope. Go to
the castle's conference room to meet Cid. Interrupt the meeting to go to the
guest rooms and find out that Dagger has lost her voice due to some kind of
emotional shock. Now if you use Dagger in a battle, she sometimes fails to
execute her commands and loses her trance ability. Go back to the throne room
where you come up with a plan to return Cid to human form. You must find three
potions, the Strange Potion, Unusual Potion, and Beautiful Potion. Go to the
Theater District and go into the art studio to get the Strange Potion, then head
further into the district to get the Unusual Potion from Cinna at the Tantalus
hideout. Finally, go to the business district to get the Beautiful Potion from
Alice, the item shop owner. While in this area of the BusinessDistrict, you can
find the Sagittarius Stellazzio. Go back to Regent Cid. Unfortunately the
potions don't turn him back into a human, in fact it only makes the situation
worse. Now you must head to the Serpent's Gate on the Base Level of the castle.
Here you meet up with Quina again, who you haven't seen since Madain Sari. Cid
leads the party to the ship, Blue Narciss, at Lindblum's harbor since no
airships can fly without Mist. You can talk to Cid at any time on the boat to
change party members. The group has determined that they must go to the Black
Mage Village, so pilot the ship to the Outer Continent.
Black Mage Village
You find that the village has been deserted by all but three Black Mages. One is
still at the cemetary and the two at the chocobo stable are still there, too.
Number 288 explains that the Black Mages left because they found out that their
life span is very limited, and that Kuja promised them that he could increase
their lives, so they joined up with Kuja. You find out that you must find Kuja's
hideout which is located in a desert at the eastern end of the Outer Continent.
Kuja's Palace
Upon reaching the desert, you find four sinkholes in the sand. The northern one
leads to Kuja's Palace and the others lead to battles against Antlions.
Immediately upon entering Kuja's palace, you find yourself in a prison cell.
Kuja lets Zidane out of his cell and has the Black Mages take him to Kuja's
chamber. Here, Kuja tells Zidane that he will kill all of his friends unless he
goes to a place called Oeilvert and retrieves an item called the Gulug Stone.
Zidane now must choose three party members to release from the cells. You must
choose a physically powerful team since Kuja tells you that magic can't be used
in Oeilvert. Your first instinct will be to use Zidane, Steiner, Freya, and
Amarant, but you may want to use Quina instead of Steiner because he will be of
more use to the team that stays behind. Either way works, but one may be easier
than the other. Kuja sends the team to the palace's docks to board the Hilda
Garde 1. In the dock, there are unfortunately some random battles. Note that the
blue headed Grimlock enemies are weak physically and the red headed ones are
weak magically. You find Zorn and Thorn in control of the Hilda Garde with
several Black Mages. They take you immediately to the Forgotten Continent.
Forgotten Continent
If you need items, you can return to the airship at any time to buy items from
the jester twins. There are two reasons that it isn't a bad idea to have Quina.
First, there is another Qu's marsh near the Hilda Garde landing site, and
second, there are some decent blue spells to learn here. Head south, winding
your way through the extensive Seaways Canyon, and eventually you circle around
a mountain to find Oeilvert.
Oeilvert
At the entrance, you find the moogle Mimoza. She has a Mogshop, which is a good
thing right now. Once inside, go up to the top platform and go through the left
door. Check the magic globe to switch it from blue to red. Go back and take the
lower door on the left. In this area, proceed down to the bottom of the screen.
You come to an area with several projectors on the floor. Go up to the upper
platform and check the projector on the left, and proceed to check the
projectors in a clockwise manner. Go to the upper platform again and keep
heading up. Cross the bridge, but check the global object near the center.
Continue left until you reach a room with several stone faces on the walls. The
faces come to life and tell the history of another world. Go all the way back to
the first area and take the door on the lower right. There is another moogle in
this room. Watch another hologram and proceed further to the right and take the
platform down a deep pit. You reach a small chamber containing the Gulug Stone,
but the ship-like Ark comes to defend the stone. Your characters should have the
clear-headed ability equipped, since this isn't a good time to get confused.
Freya should use Reis's Wind immediately. Amarant should use his throw ability.
Quina, if in your party, should use items to heal. Upon taking the stone, the
scene switches back to the characters in Kuja's Palace.
Kuja's Palace
Regent Cid discovers that he must overturn a certain hourglass the save the
lives of the team. Take him to the lower right, but be sure to pay attentionto
the Black Mages' conversation. In the next room, you must press the O button (I
think it's O anyway) repeatedly to slowly move Cid through the room and stopping
when the monster turns around. If the monster in the cage sees Cid, Cid will get
scared and run away and you'll have to start over. This really isn't that hard
since you get to start over when you fail. After getting the key, go to the
scales in the back of the room. Determine what the weights near the scale are
made of, then place the weights on the scale appropriately so that Cid can hop
across it. Turn the hourglass overand go back to the prison area. The four that
were left behind form a team with Eiko in the lead. Go back to the hourglass
room and talk to the moogle Mojito. Go back out and to the left. In the next
area, light the candle under the left angel to reveal a bloodstone under the
right angel; check it to get the Promist Ring. Go up the stairs, and in the next
area, run to the right and then to the left to reveal a magical walkway. Take
the walkway to a balcony and light the candles there. Go back down and to the
left. In the next area, you'll find several braziers and some statues that block
your way. Light all the braziers in the left area to open the door behind you.
Go through it to reach the right side. Only light the lower left brazier to
remove the statues on the right. Go back to the left area and into the
center.Check the inscription and light the two braziers at the top of the
central staircase which makes the right side statues to disappear. Light the
remaining braziers on the right and then light the one at the bottom of the
central area. Get the Anklet from the bloodstone that appears and exit through
the right doorway. You come to a circular area where you should find a
candelabra about halfway through and light it. Get the Shield Armor from the
bloodstone and go to the back of the room and take the stairs. Light the
candelabra at the top of the stairs and circle around to the front of the screen
to enter a library. Move to the left and light the candles on the left to reveal
some stairs on the right. Go up the stairs to the top level of the bookcase and
light the fixture on the left to raise the bookcase and reveal a hidden door.
Get the N-Kai Armlet from the bloodstone here and equip it to Vivi so he can
learn the Water spell. Go back down the stairs in the library and take the small
staircase on the left. Light the candles on the right to raise the books to
reveal another door. Go through it and continue around the circular balcony, but
don't miss the candles on the way up. Continue to the top and light the candles
there and go back to the library. Go to the bottom level of the bookcase and
light the candles on the right to raise the lowest part. Go through the door and
light the candelabra there. Go back and see thatthe wall on the left has been
removed to reveal the moogle Mogsam. Go past him to reach the next area. Light
the two candles under the gargoyle and get the Black Hood from the new
bloodstone. Go through the across the balcony to reach the other side of the
room. Light all three candles here to get a Venetia Shield from a bloodstone.
Now extinguish the candle on the left side of the angel statue and go to the
other side of the room and extinguish the candle on the left side of the demon.
Take the stairs that appear to reach the final candelabra. When you try to light
the candles, the security system is activated and you are attacked by the
monolithic Valia Pira, a thankfully easy boss.Dagger should cast Leviathan and
Eiko should cast Carbuncle. Steiner,if in the party, should use Water Sword.
Vivi should cast Water on all of the characters (after Eiko has used Carbuncle
to cast Reflect) to deal much more damage to the boss, and especially if the
boss has a Reflect of his own. Eiko should be the healer since Dagger is
somewhat unreliable right now. After the fight, light the final candelabra and
step into the glowing circle to teleport out.Now the scene goes back to Zidane
who has just returned to the airship dock. Move back around to the door and take
the teleporter. Zidane goes alone to give Kuja the Gulug Stone, while the others
wait. Eiko's party suddenly teleports in and leads the others into Kuja's
chamber. Kuja runs away and takes Eiko with him. Check Kuja's room to find the
rare Namingway Card, because it's more than just a card. Chase Kuja back to the
airship dock to find the Hilda Garde missing. Continue to the back and kick the
switch to lower a rope ladder to the sand. Exit to the top. The scene
immediately goes to the Blue Narciss in hot pursuit of the Hilda Garde. The ship
finally lands on the frozen Lost Continent.
Lost Continent
Don't waste any time exploring this continent, because Esto Gaza is the only
place on the entire continent. There are chocobo tracks near the landing site if
you want to reach Esto Gaza without any trouble. Head southwest to reach the
continent's only populated area.
Esto Gaza
At the entrance, you can fight random battles against the annoying Garuda enemy.
These give pretty good experience, so this might be a good time to level up
since you're actually in a town. Inside the building, you must talk to the
priest. He tells you that Kuja did in fact pass through the town. Before
continuing, check the rest of the small building to find the item shop to the
right. When you return to the main area, there are now several people there and
the priest will act as an Inn for the party. Go through the back of the building
to come to a patio area with a moogle and some more Garudas. Head to the right
and farther back to get to the entrance of Mount Gulug.
Mount Gulug
At first, search the house on the left for some items, then go through the house
on the left. Slide down rope outside to the right of the second house once
you're stasisfied you've found all the items. At the bottom, head to the right
first and talk to the moogle, Moolan. Then head to the left and talk to the
moogle Mogtaka. Go back to the well. Throughout the dungeon, you should have
found several bulletin boards describing the necessary technique to operate the
lever next to the well. If you haven't figured it out for yourself, you need to
pull down on the lever three times and then climb down the rope in the well. At
the bottom, you are attacked by some Red Dragons (you may have encountered a few
earlier if you had explored enough). Defeating them reveals the path to go
further. In the next area, Kuja is forcing Zorn and Thorn to try to extract
Eiko's eidolons. Eiko wakes up and tries to fight the jester twins. The
following battle isn't really a battle since Eiko immediately summons her new
eidolon, Madeen, and defeats Zorn and Thorn quite easily. Kuja runs off and the
Black Mages do too. Vivi follows after them, but the others must fight the
combined form of Zorn and Thorn, Meltigemini. You are forced to have Eiko in
your party for this fight. Your characters should have the Antibody ability
equipped, and you need to be sure that you have vaccines and antidotes in your
inventory. Use vaccines to cure the Virus status. Supposedly the Mini spell
works on the boss, but otherwise there's no strategy other than just using your
strongest attacks. After the fight, the party finds Cid's runaway wife, Lady
Hilda. The scene now switches back to Lindblum.
Lindblum
Cid convinces Hilda to return to Lindblum, and he even gets her to return him to
his human form. You meet Hilda and Cid in the castle's conference room. Hilda
tells you all about Kuja's plans (somehow he was quite willing to reveal his
evil schemes to her.) She also tells you that the key to finding Kuja is by
getting some clues at Ipsen's Castle on the Forgotten Continent. Before you can
really do anything, Zidane goes to Alexandria since Dagger has disappeared and
he believes she is there. There you find Baku and Beatrix. Beatrix gives Zidane
a Garnet to give to Dagger. Zidane finds Dagger at Brahne's grave. She has
regained her ability to speak and she will be able to execute commands without
fail now. Zidane gives her the Garnet, which when equipped, gives her the
powerful Bahamut eidolon. Back at Lindblum, Cid has regained the ability to
design airships. He uses parts from the Blue Narciss to build his Hilda Garde 3.
You now have control of your very own shiny new airship. Before continuing on,
you should head to the southwest of the Forgotten Continent to find the hidden
city, Daguerreo.
Daguerreo
Okay, so it's not a city, it's a really big library. This place is an optional
location, but is a good place to buy weapons, synthesize things, and get a few
items. Go to the left to come to a small room with some levers and lifts. Use
the levers to bring the left lift all the way down until you see a small hole in
the wall. Examine the hole, and then get the wooden plank from the bookshelf and
put it in the hole. Now you can examine the lift on the right to take to the
upper level. At the top, you find the weaponsmith who has some good items.
Further to the right, you find an Inn and an Item shop. Talk to the guy who
complains about not being able to find a certain book. Go to the far right of
the room to find a pile of junk which contains the book he wants. Tell him and
he will move out of your way, allowing you to climb down a hidden ladder to the
mid-level. On the mid-level, you can find some elixirs at the extreme far left
and right of the level. There is a person here who will let you change your
characters' names if the Namingway Card in your inventory. Back on the top
level, there is a guy arguing with the item shop guy. Intervene in the argument.
If you repeatedly take the right-guy's side, you get a Flare card, if you
repeatedly take the item shop guy's side, you get a Meteor Card. There is a guy
in front of the innkeeper who will give you the awesome Excalibur sword if you
have the Magical Fingertips in your key item inventory
