General information
Before you start breeding , you need the following
things:
-
Lots of money to get a Gold chocobo, about 300 000 gil
-
About 4 stables at the Chocobo Farm
-
You will also need lots of 5 000 gil greens from Chocobo Sage
-
You will need breeding nuts, but DON'T buy them from C. Sage. More info later on.
-
The last thing you need is some hi-level Chocobo Lure materia.
First thing's first; to breed
good chocobos, you need to get the parents on a high class. This can be
achieved by either feeding them lots of the 5 000 gil greens to raise
their speed, stamina and intellligence or by entering them in the
chocobo races and winning a lot. When you first get a chocobo, it will
be on Class C. They then go to B , then A and then S which is the final
class. Now, onto the breeding...
Yellow Chocobos
Yellow chocobos are the
standard chocobos which you get in the grass on the world map, but to
get the right ones for breeding to make a Green chocobo, you need a
male and a female. The best males are the ones near Gold Saucer. Equip
the Chocobo Lure and then you will enter a battle with some monsters
and a chocobo. To stop the chocobo from running away, you have to feed
it some greens to keep it occupied, simply win the battle and the
chocobo will be yours. Then, when you want to get off, get off it and
select 'send to stable'. That chocobo will now be at the stable ready
to breed. Now, you need a female chocobo, which are in the chocobo
grass near Mideel. Just repeat the battle procedure.
Once you have two chocobos, save your game.
Blue and Green Chocobos
To breed them , go back to
the Chocobo Stables and talk to Choco Billy, first, make sure that the
chocobos are in the stables, not the paddock and then tell Choco Billy
you want to breed them. You will have to walk up to the stable with the
chocobos you want to breed. NOTE: IF ONE OF THE CHOCOBOS HAS A DROOPED
HEAD, RELEASE IT AND CATCH ANOTHER ONE. You will then need to breed
them with a certain nut. The best one is a Carob Nut. You get these by
winning a battle or stealing it from one of the big red dragons on the
islands just south of the Northern Continent. Then select OK and they
will breed. However, you have to be patient because they don't always
produce what you think they might. You need them to produce one Green
one and one Blue one OF THE OPPOSITE SEX, you might have to try about 3
or 4 times.
Black Chocobos
To get a black chocobo, you
have to breed a Green Chocobo with a Blue chocobo of the opposite sex
both of which need to be on A or S class. Use a Carob Nut.
Gold Chocobos
To get a Gold Chocobo, you
need to breed a Black Chocobo with a dashing yellow, both of whom need
to be on S class. You can use a Carob Nut, but a Zeio Nut works best
(you steal these from the goblins on some of the small islands on the
world map). Once you have a Gold Chocobo, you can get Knights of the
Round, the most powerful summon -)
