After the success of Final Fantasy VII, everyone was expecting great
things from this new instalment in the series, released in 1999. This
Final Fantasy made use of many new features such as the Junction battling
system and the realistic graphics. Many people view this Final Fantasy as
one of their favourites, but on the other have considered it too radical
and different from its predecessors.
Firstly, the graphics. Unlike the previous Final Fantasies, the graphics
in Final Fantasy VIII are very realistic. The characters look much more
life-like and resemble real people rather than the anime based characters
in Final Fantasy VII. The full motion videos in the game are stunning and
occur much more frequently than in any previous Final Fantasy.
STORY
At the forefront of a rising tide of violence brought on by Galbadia's war
declaration is a SeeD cadet named Squall Leonheart. Serious to a fault,
Squall has earned himself the reputation of being a lone wolf. A chance
encounter with the free-spirited Rinoa Heartilly, however, turns his
universe upside down. Having thrived on discipline, Squall finds Rinoa's
carefree attitude fascinating. Yet there is no time to ponder these
thoughts, for the job of dealing with the sorceress behind Galbadia's
irrational hostility had fallen to SeeD and Squall.
